Martrüel

Martrüel sits at 2,178m in the Prättigau valley, accessed from the village of Schiers in Graubünden. The hut is a working alpine dairy and accommodation combined. Reach it via the hamlet of Säntis-Alp on a well-marked trail that takes 2.5 hours from Schiers. The approach gains 1,200m steadily through mixed forest then alpine pasture. Most hikers use this as a base for ridge walks into the Säntis massif or continue to neighbouring huts on multi-day tours.
Martrüel accommodates 20 people in dormitories. The hut serves simple dinners and breakfasts, though meal arrangements are not always guaranteed—check when booking. Water comes from a spring. There are no showers. The hut operates year-round but staffing is seasonal; summer months (June to September) have reliable service. Winter access requires winter mountaineering skills and good snow conditions.
Book directly by phone or email several weeks ahead for July and August weekends. The hut is popular with day hikers from nearby Säntis, making mornings quieter than afternoons. Spring and autumn offer more solitude. Contact the hut operator to confirm meal availability and current opening status before your visit, as operations can vary.
