Refuge Garibaldi - Dreisprachenspitze

Rifugio Garibaldi sits at 2,845m on the Dreisprachenspitze, the "three-language peak" marking the watershed between the Rhine, Rhone, and Inn valleys. The hut lies in the Albula Alps of Graubünden, accessible from the Preda valley. The main approach takes 3 hours from Preda (1,800m), following the valley floor then climbing steadily southeast. You can also reach it in 3.5 hours from Bergün via the Stuls Pass. The final approach is straightforward hiking with no scrambling required, making it a reasonable day-hike destination for fit walkers.

The hut has 25 beds across simple dorm rooms. Meals focus on traditional Swiss mountain cooking—full dinners and substantial breakfasts are included with overnight stays. The kitchen also serves light lunches. There's no WiFi, which means you actually sleep well at altitude. The building offers basic shelter, heating, and water; expect basic but clean accommodation. The hut is open June through September, weather permitting. The SAC maintains the hut as a staffed operation with a caretaker present throughout the season.

Book directly by phone or email at least two weeks ahead, especially for weekends and July–August. The hut is quiet on weekdays. Mid-summer Saturdays fill regularly. Confirm cancellation policies when booking, as mountain weather can force last-minute changes. Mountain bikers occasionally pass through the area, but hikers and climbers using the peak as a training objective make up most traffic.
