Refuge Gino e Massimo

Rifugio Gino e Massimo sits at 1,860m in the Ticino Alps, well-positioned for day hikes and through-routes in the Val Verzasca region. The hut is reached from Lavertezzo (about 650m), a 3.5 to 4-hour hike gaining 1,210m. The path climbs steeply through chestnut and conifer forest before breaking out onto open ridgeline. This is southern Swiss Alpine terrain—dramatic, less crowded than the northern ranges, and notably warmer. Winter snow cover is unreliable above 2,000m, so plan accordingly.
The refuge is small and simple. Capacity is 20 beds arranged in shared dormitory rooms. There is no mobile signal at the hut. The kitchen serves home-cooked meals; bring cash in Swiss francs or book meals when you reserve. The hut has water and basic toilet facilities. Open year-round but seasonally staffed—confirm availability before heading out. The refuge appeals to hikers wanting genuine mountain hospitality rather than modern comforts.
