Cabin dei Monti di Lego

Capanna dei Monti di Lego sits at 1110m in the Ticino Alps near the Gotthard region. Reach it from the village of Airolo by hiking up the Val Bedretto for roughly 2 hours. The approach is straightforward and well-marked, gaining 400m through mixed forest and alpine meadow. This is a remote hut in genuine wilderness, far from road access—that's the whole point.
The hut has 10 beds in basic dormitory rooms. A caretaker manages the hut during the summer season and can provide simple meals if you book ahead. Expect no showers, limited electricity, and a wood stove for heat. You'll carry water from the spring outside. The hut works best as a base for day hikes into the surrounding peaks or as a rest point on longer traverses through the Gotthard massif.
Book directly with the caretaker well ahead if you need food. July and August are busy; aim to reserve 6–8 weeks in advance. The hut typically opens in June and closes by late September depending on snow. Check opening dates before heading up. Solo hikers and small groups will find this hut genuinely quiet, but its isolation means you must be self-sufficient and prepared for mountain weather.
