About

Rifugio al Legn sits at 1,785m in the Ticino Alps, deep in the Val Bavona. The hut is reached from Fontana (on the road up from Cevio) via a 2.5-hour hike through mixed forest and alpine meadow. The trail is well-marked and moderate. From the hut, you have direct access to the high country around Basodino and Robiei — serious terrain for experienced hikers and scramblers.
The refuge holds 12 beds in simple dormitory arrangement. The SAC-affiliated manager serves evening meals and breakfast using local ingredients; you bring your own supplies or eat what's provided. Drinking water is available on-site. There's no self-catering kitchen and no WiFi — this is a working hut, not a hotel. The hut operates year-round but is quieter October through April; check conditions before winter visits.
Book directly by phone or email at least two weeks ahead. July and August require booking 6-8 weeks in advance. The hut fills regularly with parties doing multi-day traverses through the high Ticino. Arrive by mid-afternoon. Payment is cash only.
