Refuge Alp de Volt

Rifugio Alp de Volt sits at 1,334m on the border between Ticino and Valais, serving as a base for routes into the Lepontine Alps. Reach it from Bosco Gurin in about 2 hours on foot, following the marked trail through mixed forest and alpine meadow. The hut also connects to longer ridge traverses and peak ascents in the surrounding area, making it a useful overnight stop for mountaineers working south from the main Valais peaks.
The refuge has 23 beds split across several rooms and offers simple meals prepared on-site. The building includes a basic kitchen, dining area, and outdoor seating with views toward the Val Bavona. Water comes from the spring nearby. The hut operates year-round but is quieter in winter months when snow access becomes unreliable. Self-catering is possible if the guardian is away, though advance notice helps ensure basic provisions are available.
Contact the hut directly by phone or email to book beds, particularly for weekends in summer and early autumn. July and August fill quickly; book at least 4-6 weeks ahead. The hut is managed independently and does not use centralized SAC booking systems. Arrive before dark, especially in shoulder seasons when daylight hours are short.
