About
The rifugio is a simple, stone-built hut run by the SAC (Swiss Alpine Club). It has 40 bed spaces in basic dormitory accommodation and serves meals to residents. The kitchen provides hot water for self-catering. Water comes from a spring outside. Opening season is June through September, with variable dates depending on snow cover. The hut operates on a self-service basis outside peak season; check current status before visiting.
Book directly by phone or email well ahead for July and August weekends. May and June, as well as September, are quieter. The hut is popular with hikers crossing between the Gotthard and Lukmanier valleys and with Ticino day-walkers. Winter access is not reliable. Bring a headtorch and cash; card payments are not always possible.
