Bivouac Envers des Dorées CAS

Bivouac Envers des Dorées sits at 2,983m on the eastern flank of the Chaîne des Dorées, above the Val d'Anniviers in Valais. Reach it from Grimentz village (1,541m) via the Lac de Moiry trail. The hut lies roughly 4–5 hours' hiking from the lake, crossing open terrain and scree. Most parties approach via Lac de Moiry cable car from Grimentz, which saves 90 minutes of ascent. The bivouac is a staging point for peaks including Zinal Rothorn (4,221m), Oisans (3,875m), and traverses into the Mont Blanc massif.
This is a small, basic CAS bivouac offering roughly 10 places on a first-come, first-served basis. Expect a simple stone shelter with minimal facilities—a few mattresses, emergency supplies, and a logbook. There is no guardian, no meals, and no water source nearby. It operates year-round, but summer (July–September) and ski-touring season (April–May) see the most traffic. Winter access requires mountain skills and avalanche awareness. Bring your own sleeping bag, insulated mat, food, and stove fuel.
Book a place by contacting the Valais SAC section directly or the Grimentz tourist office. The bivouac fills quickly during July–August and Easter holidays. No advance reservation system exists; registration happens on arrival or by prior email confirmation. Expect to be self-sufficient: carry extra water, high-calorie rations, and weather-appropriate gear. Winter parties should check avalanche forecasts and notify someone of your plans.
