Blattlihütte

Blattlihütte sits at 2,327m on the border between Piedmont and Switzerland, directly above the village of Macugnaga in the Walser valleys. Reach it from Macugnaga's Passo del Turlo trailhead in 2.5 hours via a steep, cairn-marked path through meadow and scree. The hut is small and remote—ideal if you want solitude and don't expect luxury. Most hikers use it as a base for Monte Rosa approaches or as a transit point on the Alta Via delle Alpi route.

The hut sleeps 20 across a few simple dormitory rooms. The guardian cooks evening meals and breakfast, both hearty. Water comes from a spring outside. Toilets are basic. The hut operates year-round but staffing is minimal outside summer months—call ahead in shoulder seasons. There's no electricity beyond a few solar panels; bring a headlamp. Weather deteriorates fast at this elevation; afternoon storms are common from June to September.
