Cabin Fratelli Gugliermina

Capanna Fratelli Gugliermina sits at 3,212m on the Zwischbergen Pass between the Valais and Italy's Wallis region. Reach it from Saas-Grund (1,559m) via the Saas Valley. The approach takes 5–6 hours uphill through Alpine meadows and scree. The final stretch crosses rocky terrain with some exposed sections on the descent from Weissmies. Most parties use this hut as a base for climbing Weissmies (3,656m) or traversing towards the Italian border peaks. Winter access is serious mountaineering terrain requiring full glacier skills.

The hut has 30 beds spread across dormitory rooms. It operates as a simple refuge with basic heating and cooking facilities. Hot meals are available with advance notice. Water comes from snowmelt and mountain springs. The hut opens from late June through September, though exact dates depend on snow conditions and staffing. Winter ascents are possible but require independent planning as the hut is not staffed.

Book directly by phone or email at least two weeks ahead, especially for weekends in July and August. July–August gets busy with mountaineers attempting Weissmies and trekkers crossing to Italy. June and September offer quieter conditions but bring unpredictable weather and potential snow. The hut is run as a private facility, not a SAC refuge, so conditions and policies may differ from larger clubs. Bring cash—card payments are not always reliable at altitude.
