Fründenhütte SAC

Fründenhütte SAC sits at 2562m on the eastern flank of the Valais Alps, serving as a solid base for ridge walks and peak bagging in the region. Most hikers approach from Grindelwald via the Fründen Glacier or from Stechelberg across the Engental. The standard route from Stechelwald takes 3–3.5 hours. Snow and glacier sections persist into July, so crampons and a rope may be necessary depending on conditions and your experience. Check current access reports before heading out.
The hut accommodates 58 people across shared dormitory rooms. Meals are served daily during the season, or use the self-catering kitchen if you prefer to cook. Water is available on-site. Basic facilities include a wood stove for warmth. The hut operates from late spring through autumn; exact dates shift annually with snow conditions, so confirm before visiting.
