Gletscherstube Märjelen

Gletscherstube Märjelen sits at 2,360m in the Valais Alps, overlooking the Märjelen lake and glacier. Reach it on foot from Blatten in around 2.5 hours, or from Naters via the Riederalp in 4–5 hours. Both approaches cross open alpine terrain with clear trails. The hut makes a natural base for crossing the Simme Pass (2,812m) toward the Bernese Oberland, or for day hikes around the Märjelen and Blausee lakes. Winter access is unreliable.
The hut holds 34 beds in dormitory rooms. Meals are served daily, with half-board and full-board options available. You can fill water bottles at the tap. Toilets are flush, not pit latrines. The season runs from June through September, depending on snow conditions. In shoulder months, call ahead to confirm opening dates.
Book directly by email or phone. July and August require advance booking—aim for 4–6 weeks ahead if you're targeting peak season weekends. The hut is less busy in June and September, so you'll have more flexibility then. If you're passing through on a non-booked day trip, call the morning before to check availability for meals.
