Hollandiahütte

Hollandiahütte sits at 3,238m on the border between Valais and Uri, a strategic base for mountaineers tackling peaks around the Gotthard massif. The hut is reached from the south via Gotthard Pass (2,106m) and the Gotthard-Hospiz, then northeast across alpine terrain—roughly 3.5 hours on foot. From the north, approach via Gösschenen and the Göscheneralp valley, taking 4–5 hours. Either route demands mountain experience and proper equipment; this is not a casual walk. The final sections cross steep scree and require sure footing.
The hut accommodates 86 people in dormitory rooms. The SAC-managed facility serves hot meals in its dining room, making it convenient for tired mountaineers. A self-catering kitchen is available for those who prefer independence. Water is available on-site. The hut typically opens from June through September, though dates vary with snow conditions and staffing. Check ahead before traveling, especially early and late season.
Book directly by phone or email as soon as your dates are confirmed—July and August see consistent pressure, especially from mountaineering parties summiting nearby peaks. Weekend spots fill faster than weekday slots. Expect to share dormitory space; private rooms are not available. Bring a SAC membership card if you have one; non-members pay a surcharge.
