Refuge de Charlet

Refuge de Charlet sits at 2,041m in the Chaîne du Reuil, above the Vallée de Chamonix in Haute-Savoie. The hut serves as a natural base for trails across the Mont-Blanc massif's eastern approach. Reach it in 2.5 hours from Le Tour (the village northwest of Chamonix), via a steady climb through alpine meadow and scree. The terrain is non-technical but exposed—bring a map. You can also approach from Vallorcine in 3 hours via the Col de Balme circuit, though this involves more height loss on return.
The refuge operates year-round and accommodates 40 people in dormitories. Meals focus on hearty mountain food: evening menu includes soup, main course, and bread. Breakfast is simple (coffee, bread, jam). There's running water but no shower. The location offers access to the Chalets de la Poya (2,363m) and onward to Les Grands Montets, plus straightforward walks across rolling terrain to neighbouring hut routes. The hut is unmanned in winter—you'll need to call ahead.
Book by phone or email at least two weeks ahead, especially for weekends June through September. July and August fill regularly; aim for shoulder seasons (May-June, September) if possible.
