Refuge de la Tour d'Anzeindaz sits at 1,879m on the west side of the Rhone Valley, directly above Troistorrents in Valais. The main approach takes 2.5 hours from the village via a steady forest trail that gains 900m elevation. You can also approach from Champéry (3.5 hours) or combine a cable car descent from Portes du Soleil with the hiking trail. The refuge sits on the Tour d'Anzeindaz ridge, a natural vantage point between the Rhone Valley and the Jura foothills.
The SAC-affiliated refuge runs 12 beds across simple dorm rooms. Dinner and breakfast are available daily, with limited self-catering options. Water comes from the hut's spring. The toilet situation is basic; there's no shower. The refuge opens from late May through October, operating weekends only in shoulder season and daily from mid-June through September. Cell reception is poor but the hut has a landline.
Book directly by phone for weekend visits July through September, especially if you need dinner. Off-season visits (May, June, October) require contact 48 hours ahead. The refuge fills fastest on Saturdays during July and August when day-trippers from Troistorrents arrive. This is a working-hut environment rather than a plush mountain hotel, so expect basic comfort and a social atmosphere. Bring cash; card payments are unreliable.
