Refuge de Miage

Refuge de Miage sits at 1,564m on the Vallée de la Miage, on the Mont-Blanc massif's western flank. The hut anchors access to the Glacier de Miage and routes toward Mont-Blanc via the Trois Monts traverse. From Combloux village, allow 1.5 to 2 hours uphill to the hut. The terrain is mostly forest trail with views opening as elevation gains. Most hikers arrive from the Chamonix valley side or combine the hut with traverses toward Italy.
The refuge is a traditional mountain shelter run by experienced staff. Capacity runs to around 40 beds in simple shared dormitories. Meals are provided—full board is standard, though day visitors eating lunch need advance notice. Facilities include basic toilets and water; showers are not available. The hut operates year-round but winter access depends on snow conditions and requires mountaineering skills. Summer crowds build from June through August, with July-August peak reaching capacity most weekends.
Book directly by email or phone at least 2 to 3 months ahead for July and August weekends. June, September, and early October offer better availability with fewer crowds. Confirm meal options when booking, especially if you're bringing a group. Winter visits require confirmation that the hut will be staffed—call ahead rather than emailing. Pay in cash or by bank transfer; card facilities are limited.
