Chalet de la Combe Gelée

Chalet de la Combe Gelée sits at 1,850m in the Chaîne des Aravis, above the village of Manigod in Haute-Savoie. The standard approach takes 2 hours from the Nant Brun carpark (1,430m), following a well-marked trail through alpine meadows and larch forest. The route climbs steadily but without technical sections. In winter, ski touring access is straightforward from the same starting point. The hut occupies a pastoral setting with views north toward Mont-Blanc's massif.
The chalet operates year-round and accommodates 40 people in mixed dormitory rooms. Meals are prepared daily and the kitchen serves hearty mountain fare. There's a simple bar area and wood-burning stove for the common room. Showers and toilets are basic but functional. Mobile signal is unreliable; bring cash as the hut may not process card payments reliably. Winter access requires checking conditions ahead with the guardian.

Weekends year-round attract day-hikers and require booking several weeks in advance. The hut is popular with families and groups doing the multi-day Aravis trek.
