Chalet des Tuffes

The hut sleeps 43 across dormitory-style rooms. FFCAM (Club Alpin Français) operates it as a simple mountain refuge with packed lunches available and evening meals provided during the season. Water comes from mountain sources. Toilets are basic but functional. The hut operates year-round but staffing and services are minimal during winter months—contact ahead if you're planning an off-season visit. The atmosphere is working mountain hut, not leisure resort.

Book directly by phone well ahead for July and August. July fills fastest, often 8 to 10 weeks in advance. You'll need French language skills or patience on the phone, though staff may manage basic English. Shoulder seasons (June, September) are quieter and still offer good weather for hiking. Winter visits require advance coordination to confirm the hut is staffed. Bring cash for payment—card facilities are limited or absent.
