Dom Na Uršlji Gori

Dom Na Uršlji Gori sits at 1,670m on Uršlja Gora in the Karavanke range, straddling the Austrian-Slovenian border in Carinthia. Reach it from the village of Eisenkappel-Zell: take the road toward the Uršlja Gora pass, then follow marked trails uphill for 2 to 2.5 hours. The final approach crosses open meadows with views into both countries. The hut is also accessible from the Slovenian side near Črna, making it a natural waypoint on trans-border ridge traverses.
The hut operates year-round and accommodates around 40 guests in mixed dorms and a handful of double rooms. Meals focus on hearty Carinthian and Slovenian food—expect schnitzel, stews, and local cheese. There's no WiFi, so plan on genuine disconnection. The location works well for day hikes across the Karavanke crest, walks through beech forests, and winter snowshoe routes. Water comes from mountain springs.
Book at least 6 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Contact the hut directly by phone or email for current rates and group reservations. Winter bookings need confirmation of snow conditions and access. The hut fills quickly with hikers doing the Karavanke traverse and families from both countries using it as a meeting point.
