Feistritzer Alm

Feistritzer Alm sits at 1,850m in the Karawanken range above the Feistritz Valley, roughly 15km south of Kranjska Gora in Slovenia. The standard approach is 2.5 hours from the village of Feistritz (860m). Start on the marked trail heading south through forest, which opens to pasture as you gain height. The final section crosses open alpine meadow. You can also approach from the Slovenian side via Polog (1.5 hours), making this a natural crossing point for hut-to-hut routes linking the Austrian and Slovenian Alps.
The hut offers 50 beds in simple dormitory rooms and a few double rooms. Meals are hearty: expect traditional Carinthian fare with vegetarian options. The restaurant uses local dairy and seasonal produce. Water is reliable. The hut has no shower facilities but provides washbasins. Mobile reception is reasonable. It operates year-round, though staffing drops in November and December—check ahead for these shoulder months. Summer is busy mid-July through August; June and September offer better conditions with fewer crowds.
Book 2-3 months in advance for July and August weekends. Contact the hut directly by phone or email; they accept reservations for groups of 6+ and manage walk-ins flexibly outside peak season. The hut is managed by locals and runs informally compared to major Austrian Alpine Club huts. Bring cash—card payments are not guaranteed.
