About

The Keuschnig Anderlehütte sits at 2,410m in the Andesregion of the Karawanken, above the Untertal valley. Access is via the Untertal from Bleiburg or from the Petzen area. Most approaches take 3–4 hours from the Untertal parking area, following marked trails through mixed forest and alpine meadow. The hut is also reachable from Petzen in roughly the same time. This location works as a base for ridge traverses in the northern Karawanken and intermediate alpine scrambles in the area.
The hut has capacity for around 100 people across dormitory and smaller rooms. Meals are available on weekends year-round and daily during the main season (June to September). The kitchen serves simple mountain food; half-board is standard. Water and electricity are available. The hut is managed by the Österreichischer Alpenverein (OeAV) and operates all year, though staffing is limited outside summer weekends. Winter access is possible but demands appropriate experience and equipment.
Book well ahead for weekends and July–August; contact the hut directly by phone or email at least 2–3 weeks beforehand. Summer holiday weeks (mid-July to mid-August) often fill 4–6 weeks in advance. The hut accepts both OeAV members and non-members, though membership brings a small discount on accommodation. Half-board pricing is reasonable by Austrian standards.
