Rossalmhütte / Koča Na Bleščeči

The Rossalmhütte sits at 1084m in the Karawanken range on the Austria-Slovenia border, serving both hikers and mountaineers working the ridge trails between the two countries. Reach it from the Podnart side (Slovenia) in 2.5 hours, or from Ferlach (Austria) in roughly 3 hours via the Rossalm valley. The hut functions as both an Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) facility and Slovenian mountain refuge, making it a natural base for traversing this popular cross-border section.
The hut maintains 40 beds across several rooms. Meals focus on hearty Austrian and Slovenian fare; book dinner ahead if you're arriving after 18:00. The kitchen serves breakfast from 07:00. Water comes from a mountain spring. Toilets are basic but functional. The hut stays open year-round but staffing drops significantly November to March—contact ahead if visiting winter. Winter access is feasible but exposed sections can become difficult without experience.
Book 4-6 weeks ahead for July and August. The hut fills quickly on weekends. Contact the OeAV Ferlach section or call directly to reserve. Payment in cash is preferred, though card payments are accepted. Arrive by mid-afternoon if you haven't pre-arranged dinner, as the kitchen closes by 20:00.
