Koča Na Dobrči

Koča Na Dobrči sits at 1,478m on the Slovenian side of the Karavanke range, above the Slovenian town of Radovljica. Most hikers reach it from the Austrian side via the Karavanke crossing at Pungert (1,520m), a 2-hour walk from the carpark near Ludmannsdorf in Carinthia. The hut marks a natural stopping point on longer ridge traverses and sits on established hiking routes linking the Untersteiermark region to Slovenia. The elevation means reliable snow-free hiking from May through October.
The hut operates year-round and offers 40 beds in simple dormitory rooms. Meals are basic but substantial—expect traditional Alpine fare cooked on-site. There's no WiFi, so you're genuinely disconnected. The staff speak German and Slovene. Water is available. The building itself is functional rather than comfortable, which suits the clientele: serious hikers doing multi-day ridge walks rather than weekend tourists.
Book accommodation direct by email or phone at least 2–3 weeks ahead for summer weekends and all of July and August. Expect the hut to fill during the main season. Spring (May–June) and autumn (September–October) offer quieter conditions and reliable weather for ridge hiking. Winter access depends on snow conditions and avalanche forecasting.
