Planinski Dom Na Zelenici sits at 1536m in the Karawanks range on the Slovenian side of the Carinthia border. Access from the Austrian side means crossing into Slovenia—a straightforward approach via the Loški Potok valley takes 2–3 hours from Eisenkappel-Straße. The hut works well as a base for ridge walks along the Karawanks or as a break point on longer traverses between Austria and Slovenia. Most visitors arrive from the Loški Potok trailhead rather than the Austrian approach, so check conditions on the border crossing in advance.
The hut is a simple mountain refuge run by Slovenian hikers. It offers around 30 beds in shared dormitories and a small restaurant serving straightforward mountain food—ordering meals ahead is essential. Toilets and washing facilities are basic; there is no WiFi. The hut operates year-round, though weekend crowds pick up from May to September. Water comes from a spring; generators provide electricity in the evenings. Staff speak Slovenian and some English.
Book by phone well ahead for weekends between June and August. July and August fill quickly with groups. Winter access depends on snow conditions—ring ahead if you're planning a cold-season visit.
