Ledererhütte

Ledererhütte sits at 1,520m in the Karavanke range on the Austrian-Slovenian border, south of Eisenkappel. Reach it from the Eisenkappel valley in 2.5 hours on foot via marked trail 204, climbing steadily through mixed forest. The hut can also be accessed from the Slovenian side via the Mezica valley, making it a natural waypoint for cross-border hikers. The location offers good day walks to surrounding peaks and access to the ridge trail running along the Karavanke crest.
Ledererhütte is a simple mountain hut managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV), with capacity for around 45 guests. It offers dormitory beds and basic private rooms. Meals are available including a cooked evening menu and packed lunches. The hut has a small bar and simple shower facilities. It operates year-round, though staffing and services are reduced in winter months—contact ahead if planning a winter visit. The hut is popular with hikers exploring the Karavanke and serves walkers doing the longer ridge traverses in this quieter border region.
Book directly by email or phone at least 2-3 weeks ahead for summer weekends and September. July and August are busiest. The hut can usually accommodate walk-ins on weekdays outside peak season. Half-board rates are standard. OeAV members receive a small discount on room rates.
