Schwarzseehütte

Schwarzseehütte sits at 2,118m on the east shore of Schwarzsee in the Gerlitzen Alpen, roughly 15km southwest of Villach. Most hikers approach from Bodental car park (allow 3.5 hours) via the marked trail past Bodensee and Obersee. The hut is accessible year-round, though winter approaches require mountain experience and avalanche awareness. Alternative routes exist from Villach and the Dreiländereck region if you're combining multiple peaks.
The hut is managed by Villacher Alpenverein and offers 60 beds split between dormitories and a few smaller rooms. Meals are reliable: half-board (bed, breakfast, dinner) is standard, and packed lunches available on request. Facilities include hot showers and a drying room. The hut opens late March through early November, with weekends busy from June onwards. Winter operation is limited and requires advance notice.

The hut sits on the boundary between Carinthia and Styria, making it a solid base for ridge walks toward Gerlitzen (2,195m) or traverses into Styrian territory.
