Zollnersee Hut

Zollnersee Hut sits at 1,750m on the shores of Zollnersee, a glacial lake in the Carnic Alps above the Lesachtal valley in Carinthia. Reach it from the village of Lesachtal in roughly 2.5 hours on foot via the marked trail that climbs steeply through woodland before breaking into alpine meadow. The final approach crosses open terrain with good views south towards Italy. Most hikers arrive from the Lesachtal side, though the hut also connects to trails heading east towards the Gailtal and west into higher alpine terrain.
The hut is run by the Austrian Alpine Club's Sektion Obergailtal-Lesachtal and operates year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions. It sleeps around 40 people in mixed dormitory rooms and offers simple meals including a basic breakfast and three-course dinners. The hut has running water and basic washing facilities. Electricity is generated on-site. It's a straightforward mountain refuge, not a hotel—expect clean, functional accommodation and hearty food geared to hikers.
Book directly with the hut by email or phone. Summer weekends fill quickly from June through September, so contact them at least 3-4 weeks ahead for peak season. Mid-week slots are usually easier to secure. The hut fills fastest in July and August. Winter bookings are more flexible but confirm conditions before arriving. Half-board (bed and dinner) is standard; packed lunches can be arranged for the next day's hiking.
