About
Barmer Hütte sits at 2,610m in the Rieserfernergruppe massif, east of the Zillertal valley in East Tyrol. Reach it from Zillertal by hiking via the Zamserbach valley; allow 4–5 hours from the road end at Zell. The hut sits in open alpine terrain above the Zamser valley, making it a practical base for traversing the high peaks or accessing the Zillertal Alta Via. Direct access from the south via the Ahrntal is also possible but longer.
The DAV Sektion Barmen manages 53 beds across multiple rooms. Meals follow standard alpine-hut format: hearty dinners, packed lunches, and breakfast. Hot showers are available. The hut opens mid-June through September; exact dates depend on snow melt and staffing. Winter access is generally not reliable. Water comes from mountain sources; power is basic, and there is no mobile coverage—plan accordingly.
Book directly with the hut by email or phone. July and August are busy; book at least 6 weeks ahead for these months. June and September offer better availability. The hut prefers advance notice for larger groups. Confirm opening dates before planning a spring visit, as snowfall affects access until late June most years.
