Reach it from the village of Sillian in around 3 hours on foot, heading southwest through meadows and larch forest. The trail is well-marked and moderately steep. You can also approach from the Defereggen Valley side in roughly the same time. The hut serves as a solid base for traversing the surrounding peaks and ridge walks in the Rieserferner-Ahrn range.
The hut has 40 beds split between 7 private rooms and dormitory space, managed by OeAV Sektion Sillian. Half-board and full-board meals are available. The kitchen serves typical Alpine fare. Showers are on-site. There is no WiFi. The hut stays open from June through September. In July and August expect crowds on weekends.
