Vöslauer Hut

Vöslauer Hütte sits at 1,535m in the Gösing Alps, a limestone range south of Waidhofen an der Ybbs in Lower Austria. Reach it from the village of Gösing an der Ybbs via the Große Schlucht gorge. The main approach takes 2 hours through forested terrain and the dramatic canyon. A steeper variant from Waidhofen takes 2.5 hours. Both routes gain roughly 800m. The hut serves as a base for ridgeline walks to Hochbär (1,886m) and the peaks surrounding Göstling valley. The Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) manages the facility.
The hut has 40 beds across several rooms and offers half-board meals. Dinner features simple Austrian fare. Breakfast is served from 7:30. The kitchen supplies packed lunches on request. A small bar operates in the evening. Water comes from a spring. The hut stays open year-round, though staffing drops in November and March—confirm availability before visiting. Electricity is limited; charging is available but not guaranteed. The hut has no shower facilities.
Book directly by phone before arrival, especially for weekends and Austrian school holidays (mid-July through August, Easter week, Christmas period). Winter conditions demand mountaineering experience; check snow and avalanche conditions with the hut before attempting winter visits. The facility is popular with Austrian hikers, so book 3–4 weeks ahead for summer weekends.
