The Erichhütte (Erich-Hütte) lies at 1,540 m on the south-western flank of the Hochkönig, in the Berchtesgaden Alps above Dienten am Hochkönig in Salzburg. Built in 1907 and owned by the Austrian Alpine Club (ÖAV), Sektion Lend-Dienten, it is a comfortable, family-friendly hut and a classic base camp for ascents of the Hochkönig, the highest peak of the Berchtesgaden Alps. It is also the starting point for the Königsjodler, one of the longest and most demanding via ferratas in the range, and for easier summits such as the Taghaube and Grandlspitz. The hut offers 28 beds in rooms (there is no large dormitory) and holds an environmental certificate, with modern facilities, home cooking and a children's playground. The easiest approach is a short walk of about 40 minutes on a forest road from the Dientner Sattel pass, making it very accessible for families and day visitors; alternative easy routes climb in about 1.5 hours from the Dachegg/Zachhof lift parking or from Dienten itself. The hut is generally staffed from mid-May to the end of October. It combines an easy, scenic approach with serious high-mountain objectives right on its doorstep, making it popular with both families and alpinists.
