Fallhausalm

Fallhausalm sits at 1,353m in the Loferer and Leoganger Limestone Alps, southeast of Lofer in Salzburg state. The hut is easily reached from Lofer village (around 600m) via a well-marked trail that takes 1.5 to 2 hours of steady climbing through mixed forest. The route is straightforward and suitable for families as well as serious hikers using the hut as a base for higher peaks. From Fallhausalm you can push on to Loferer Alm or tackle the limestone ridges that dominate this region.
Fallhausalm operates as a traditional mountain dairy farm and working alpengasthof rather than a dedicated Alpine Club hut. It sleeps around 40 people in basic shared rooms and dormitories. The kitchen serves hearty Austrian fare: kasnocken, erdäpfelpuffer, and their own dairy products feature regularly. You can expect simple but clean facilities and reliable water. The hut stays open year-round, though it's busiest from June through September and on weekends during the shoulder seasons. Winter access depends on snow conditions.
Book directly by phone or email several weeks ahead for July and August weekends. The hut fills quickly in summer. Phone ahead in winter to confirm opening and access. The hut is family-friendly and welcomes day visitors for meals, so you won't find the austere atmosphere of higher, more remote huts. This makes it a solid base for families exploring the Loferer range or a convenient overnight stop on a longer Salzburg Alps tour.
