Grubenbachhütte

The Grubenbachhütte sits at 1,461m in the Tennengebirge, south of Hallein in the Salzburg Alps. Reach it from the village of Adnet via the Grubenbachtal valley—allow 2.5 to 3 hours on a well-marked trail. The hut serves as a base for ridge walks across the Tennengebirge and approaches to peaks like the Lammererkopf (2,076m). Summer hiking here is straightforward; winter access is often impossible due to avalanche risk.
The hut is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and sleeps around 40 people in mixed and single-sex rooms. The kitchen serves dinner and breakfast; bring your own packed lunch or eat at the hut. Water comes from the Grubenbach stream. Facilities include a small bar and a drying room. The hut is typically open from May to October, though snow can arrive early in September. Confirm current opening dates before travel.
Book well in advance by phone, especially for weekends and July-August. The hut fills quickly during summer school holidays. Call ahead to check bed availability and confirm meal options. Groups of 8 or more should contact the hut directly to arrange reduced rates and catering. Arrive early in the day if you're walking in; the afternoon light goes fast in the valley.
