Heinreich-Hochalm

Heinreich-Hochalm sits at 1,688m in the Salzburg Alps, accessible from the Pinzgau valley. The standard approach takes 2.5–3 hours from Uttendorf or Reit im Winkl (German side). You can also reach it from Zell am See in 4 hours via the Schmittenhöhe. The hut serves as a base for circular routes across the surrounding ridges and access to peaks in the 2,000–2,200m range.
The hut offers around 30 beds in mixed dormitories. Meals are substantial: traditional Austrian fare at dinner, packed lunches available for onward walks. Water comes from the spring. The building has basic heating and an outhouse-style toilet. It operates year-round but is reliably staffed only June through September. Outside this window, call ahead to confirm. Winters are cold; the hut isn't insulated for extended snow season.
Book directly with the hut keeper. The Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) lists contact details. July and August fill quickly—aim to reserve 4–6 weeks ahead. June and September are quieter. The hut sits on multiple long-distance routes, so weekends draw consistent traffic. Arrive with a sleeping bag or hire bedding. There's no mobile signal on site.
