The Hofpürglhütte sits at 1,705 m in the Gosaukamm, the western outlier of the Dachstein massif, on a sunny shoulder beneath the striking Große Bischofsmütze above Filzmoos in Salzburg. Owned by the Austrian Alpine Club (ÖAV), Sektion Linz, and run by the Sudra family, it has welcomed climbers and walkers since 1902. The hut is best known as a climbing hub: several hundred bolted sport-climbing pitches have been developed on the surrounding walls, there is a dedicated bouldering room for wet days, and it is the classic starting point for alpine ascents of the Große Bischofsmütze, the highest peak of the Gosaukamm. It also anchors superb ridge walks, with signed routes toward the Sulzenhals and Rinderfeld. Accommodation totals around 100 places — roughly 29 beds in rooms plus 71 dormitory (Matratzenlager) spaces, with a small winter room for emergencies. The easiest approach is a gentle hour's walk from the Aualm or Hofalm car parks above Filzmoos, making it family-friendly despite its alpine setting, while longer routes climb directly from Filzmoos village. The hut is generally open from June until late September or October, snow depending, serving warm meals and drinks throughout the season.
