Kirchgasshütte

Kirchgasshütte sits at 1,366m on the northern edge of the Tennengebirge, roughly 15km south of Salzburg city. The hut is a hiking hub rather than a mountain refuge—it's accessible by foot in 1.5 hours from the Anzenbach valley carpark near Elsbethen, or 2.5 hours from Elsbethen village itself. The location makes it an easy day trip for Salzburg-based walkers, though it also works as a starting point for longer traverses through the limestone ridges to the south.
The hut is managed by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and operates year-round with 80 beds across dormitory and private rooms. They serve hot meals at lunch and dinner, with a simple breakfast available. The hut has running water and toilets; it's not a luxury refuge but solid, functional accommodation. The setting suits hill walkers and families more than technical climbers. Several marked trails radiate from here, including routes to Rupertiberg (1,533m) and connections into the broader Tennengebirge network.
