Kehrerhütte
2.5About
The hut is run by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and has 50 beds spread across three rooms. Meals focus on hearty mountain food: expect roast meats, soups, and fresh bread. Water comes from a spring; there's no shower. The hut operates from May to October, weather-dependent. Mid-June to September sees the most reliable conditions. Electricity is generated by solar panels and wind turbine, so the hut has basic light and phone charging.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email 2–4 weeks ahead, earlier if planning a July or August visit. July and August fill quickly. The hut doesn't accept credit cards, so bring cash. Weekends are busier than weekdays. The nearest town with supplies is Bad Reichenhall, 25km away by road; pack all food and fuel not available at the hut.
