Reitalm
3.6About
Reitalm is a working mountain farm and simple hut run by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV). It sleeps around 25 people in basic dormitory rooms and has a few double rooms. Meals are homemade and hearty: expect Austrian standards like goulash, dumplings, and fresh bread. The hut has no shower (wash basins only) and no electricity in rooms. Water comes from a spring. The kitchen serves breakfast and dinner; you can request packed lunches. Reitalm opens year-round but is most reliable from June to October; winter access depends on snow cover and conditions.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email in advance, especially for weekends and July–August when numbers swell. Expect to pay €40–50 per night including dinner and breakfast. The hut is popular with Austrian day-hikers on weekends, so arrive early or book overnight accommodation ahead. In summer, expect company—this is accessible terrain with open pastoral views.
