About

Rosserhütte sits at 1,550m in the Loferer and Leoganger Limestone Alps, roughly 40km south of Salzburg. Reach it from Saalfelden in 3 to 4 hours via the Vorderkaiserfelden valley. The approach is straightforward hiking on marked trails through mixed forest and alpine meadow. The hut serves as a solid base for day hikes in the Lofers, particularly the traverse across the limestone plateaus and peaks above 2,000m.

The hut sleeps around 80 guests in simple dormitory and small private rooms. It serves hearty Austrian food at dinner and breakfast; bring cash or check if card payments are accepted beforehand. The kitchen stocks beer, schnapps and soft drinks. Water comes from the spring; there is a drying room for boots and clothing. The hut opens year-round but is quietest from November to March. Summer is busy, especially weekends.

Book directly with the hut 3 months ahead for July and August weekends. The OeAV manages it, so OeAV members receive slightly reduced rates. Phone or email early; they fill quickly during peak season. July through September draws the most hikers. If you're flexible, visit in June or September for better availability and quieter trails.
