Schwarzeneggalm
2.4About
The alm operates as a working dairy farm and simple gasthaus. You'll find hearty Austrian food—mostly schnitzel, kasnocken, and salads—rather than mountaineering rations. The owner milks the herd twice daily. You cannot sleep here; come for food and rest only. Summer opening runs roughly May through October, though shoulder months depend on snow and the farmer's schedule. Capacity at tables is around 40 people, but crowding is rare. Order meals in advance if you're part of a group. The tap water is excellent and comes straight from the mountain.
Reach the hut owner by phone to confirm opening dates and to reserve larger meals. There is no email contact; calling ahead is essential, especially outside July and August. The hut lies within the OeAV territory, though it is not directly managed by the club. Do not rely on the internet for current status. Expect to pay cash or bring a card—ask beforehand which payment methods they accept.
