Stuhlalm

Stuhlalm sits at 1,467m in the Salzburg Alps, reached via the Stuhlalm Trail from Anzenau in the Pinzgau valley. The approach takes 2.5 hours on a steady forest path that gains 600m elevation. This is a working alpine dairy farm first, hut second—the focus is on traditional mountain agriculture rather than catering to hikers. The setting is pastoral: meadows, weathered wood buildings, grazing cattle.

The hut offers basic accommodation in simple rooms and a small restaurant serving farm-fresh food. Meals emphasize what the farm produces: dairy, meat, and vegetables. Capacity is modest—around 20 beds. The season runs May through October, with reduced service in shoulder months. Facilities are functional rather than luxury; expect clean basics and no frills. This hut works best as a lunch stop or overnight base for exploring the quieter valleys south of the Kitzbühel Alps.

Email ahead before visiting, especially for overnight stays. Stuhlalm is not on the main hut-to-hut trail network, so you won't face the booking pressure of popular alpine huts. June through September is the reliable window for a visit. This is a good choice if you want to support a working farm and prefer solitude over crowds.
