Theodor-Körner-Hut

The Theodor-Körner-Hütte sits at 1,466m in the Salzburg Alps, on the eastern flank of the Hochkönig massif. Reach it from the village of Dienten am Hochkönig via the Arthurhaus valley trail—about 2.5 hours on a well-marked path. The hut serves as a base for day walks across the Hochkönig plateau and longer routes into the Berchtesgaden Alps. Strong walkers can push to Hochkönig (2,941m) and back in a long day. The setting sits above the tree line on open alpine meadows, offering unobstructed views north toward the Berchtesgaden range.
The hut is operated by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and sleeps around 50 people in mixed and private rooms. The kitchen serves hearty mountain food—expect traditional Austrian fare with vegetarian options. There's a small bar, and the hut runs year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and requires proper equipment. Toilet and shower facilities are basic but functional. Mobile reception is patchy.
Book directly with the hut 2–3 months ahead for July and August. Email or phone well in advance during peak season—the hut fills quickly. Weekends are busy from June through September. Off-season (October–May) booking is more flexible, though staff presence thins in winter. Bring cash; card payments are unreliable at this elevation.
