Wismeyerhaus

Wismeyerhaus sits at 1670m in the Loferer and Leogantner limestone massif, south of the Salzburg basin. The hut is reached via the Saalbach valley from Saalbach-Hinterglemm village (860m start). The standard approach takes 3–3.5 hours on a well-marked trail through mixed forest and alpine meadow. The route is steady rather than steep, making it accessible for most hill walkers. Alternatively, approach from the Torstein side for a different perspective on the massif.
Wismeyerhaus operates as a managed hut under OeAV administration and offers 50 beds across simple dormitory and smaller rooms. The kitchen serves hot meals at dinner and packed lunches by arrangement. Water comes from a spring; there is no shower facility. The hut opens year-round but is quietest outside July–August and the December–January ski period. Spring and autumn offer the most reliable weather and empty beds. Winter access requires snowshoes or skis depending on conditions.
Book directly with the hut 4–6 weeks ahead for summer weekends and any time during July or August. The Saalbach valley attracts Austrian and Bavarian weekenders, especially during school holidays. Weekday visits outside peak months are usually walkup-friendly. The hut keeper can advise on local conditions and onward routes to Hochalm or the Hochkogel circuit.
