Bockstaller Hut (zum Holter Fritz)

The Bockstaller Hütte stands at 1,520m in the Seckauer Alpen near Gröbming in Styria. The standard approach takes 2.5 to 3 hours from the Gröbming valley. Most hikers start from Gröbming village and follow the marked trail through mixed forest, gaining 700m steadily. The trail is well-maintained and suitable for fit hillwalkers. The hut serves as a natural stop on multi-day routes crossing the eastern limestone ranges and links to routes toward the Seckauer Zinken and onward to other Alpine Club huts.
The hut accommodates around 50 people in mixed dormitory rooms. Meals focus on hearty Austrian fare: expect good goulash, schnitzel, and local specialities. Half-board (Halbpension) is standard. The kitchen provides hot water and basic utilities. Opening season runs roughly May through October; confirm exact dates before travelling. The hut operates as a traditional mountain inn rather than a modern facility, which fits its role as a working base rather than a destination in itself.

Weekday slots are usually available even in peak season. The hut can get busy when weather drives groups off other routes, so flexibility on dates helps.
