Gewürzalmhütte

The Gewürzalmhütte sits at 1,330m in the Sölk Valley (Sölktal) in southern Styria, an accessible base for day hikes and ridge walks in the Sölk Alps. Reach it from Sölk-Bad village by hiking 1.5 hours through mixed forest on a well-marked trail, gaining about 300m. The route is straightforward and suitable for families, though it climbs steadily. You can also drive partway and reduce walking time to roughly 45 minutes from the upper car park. The hut sits amid open alpine meadows with views toward the Sölk ridge.
The Gewürzalmhütte offers simple accommodation with dormitory beds and a few private rooms, sleeping around 40 guests total. The kitchen serves traditional Austrian mountain food, including hearty soups and schnitzel. Hot showers are available. The hut operates year-round, though winter visits depend on snow conditions and advance notice. This is a working alpine farm as much as a hut, and the atmosphere reflects that—genuine rather than polished. Meals must be ordered when you book.
Book accommodation by phone or email directly with the hut. During summer weekends and Austrian school holidays (late July through early August), book 4–6 weeks ahead. Weekday visits outside peak season rarely require more than a week's notice. The hut is also a popular lunch stop for day-hikers on weekend circuits, so arrive early if you want a guaranteed table for food. Winter access requires confirming conditions beforehand.
