Kitzhütte
2.5About
The hut sleeps around 30 people in shared dorms and offers simple evening meals, packed lunches, and hot drinks. The building is basic mountain shelter rather than a hotel—expect pit toilets and cold water. Meals use local ingredients and can be arranged in advance. The hut opens from late May to September, with full staffing July to August. Weekend trips are possible year-round if you can access the hut (contact the warden directly in off-season). The location sits well for 5–7 day ridge traverses across the Seckauer and Schober ranges.
Book the hut 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Contact the OeAV directly or check their website for current rates and availability. The warden can sometimes accommodate walk-ups in shoulder seasons, but this is not guaranteed. Approach in fine weather—the valley can flood in heavy rain.
