Rabl-Kreuz-Hut

The Rabl-Kreuz-Hütte sits at 2,416m in the Sölk Valley, a quiet corner of the Styrian Alps east of Schladming. Reach it from the valley by hiking 2.5 hours from the village of Sölk-Alm, following marked trails through alpine meadow and larch forest. Most hikers approach via the Sölk Valley trail system, which connects to the Dachstein massif to the north. The hut serves as a base for ridge walks and peak bagging in the Sölk Alps—scrambles to Sölkhorn (2,510m) and other 2,400–2,600m summits take 3–5 hours from the hut.
The hut is run by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and offers 50–60 beds in mixed and family rooms. Half-board meals are available; the kitchen handles dietary requirements if notified in advance. Hot showers cost extra. The hut operates year-round but runs at minimal capacity November to March. Summer is busy mid-July through August. Winter access requires mountain skills and avalanche awareness—the approach becomes technical after heavy snow.
Book direct with the hut 3–4 months ahead for July and August weekends. Contact details are available through the OeAV website. July and August fill quickly; consider June or September for reliable availability and better snow conditions on high routes. Winter ascents are possible but demand prior experience.
