Wetterkoglerhaus

Wetterkoglerhaus sits at 1743m on the slopes above Stainach in the Ennstal valley, Styria. The main approach is from Stainach-Irdning village: allow 2.5 to 3 hours hiking uphill via the marked trail through forest and alpine meadow. The hut is also accessible from the Höll valley to the south, a longer but less steep alternative. The location makes it a useful base for day walks across the surrounding ridges and peaks of the Sengsengebirge massif.
The hut is run by the Austrian Alpine Club (OeAV) and offers around 40 beds in mixed dormitory rooms. Evening meals focus on hearty Austrian fare. The kitchen serves breakfast and packed lunches on request. Water comes from a spring. The hut is typically open from May through October, though opening dates vary year to year—check ahead for Easter weekends and early autumn shoulder seasons. Facilities are basic: no showers, pit toilets, and heating by stove in cold months.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email at least 2 to 3 weeks ahead for weekends and July-August. July and August weekends fill quickly. Solo hikers and smaller groups often find space on weekdays. The hut has no website but contact details are listed in the OeAV hut directory and most printed Alpine guide books.
