Schiestlhaus

Schiestlhaus sits at 2,153m in the Seckauer Tauern range of the Styrian Alps. The hut is accessible from multiple directions. From Seckau-Dürnstein to the south, allow 4–5 hours for a steady climb via the Seckauer Tal. From the north, approaches via the Riesachtal add 5–6 hours. Winter access is limited and depends on snow conditions. The hut works well as a base for peaks in the surrounding massif or as a waypoint on ridge traverses.
The OeTK runs Schiestlhaus with 60 beds across multiple dormitories. Meals are available: expect hearty alpine fare and packed lunches for onward routes. Flush toilets provide basic sanitation. The hut opens mid-May through late September, weather dependent. Winter closure is firm. The setting is genuinely quiet—this is not a destination hut, but rather a functional shelter for serious mountain work in a sparse corner of the range.

July and August are busiest; aim to reserve 4–6 weeks ahead if travelling then. Shoulder months (June, September) are quieter. Weekend traffic in good weather still justifies advance booking.
