Almgasthof Buchacker

Almgasthof Buchacker sits at 1,520m in the Zillertal valley, a working mountain farm and guesthouse that doubles as a hiking base. Reach it from Zell am Ziller by driving 6km up the Zillertal or hiking the valley path in 90 minutes. Most visitors arrive via the Zillertal bus, which stops near the farm. The location gives fast access to Tuxer Vorberge ridge walks and scrambles up to 2,500m-plus peaks. Summer hiking dominates, but the farm operates year-round and sits within walking distance of gentler valley trails.
The hut serves meals in its restaurant rather than operating traditional alpine-hut dormitory bunks. Rooms are private or small group bookings only. The kitchen specializes in Tyrolean food, sourcing meat and dairy from the farm itself. Space fills quickly during July and August when families and group hikers book the place as a base for week-long stays. The farm offers simpler facilities than dedicated alpine huts—expect solid comfort and good food, not minimalism. WiFi and parking are available.
Book direct by email or phone 3–6 months ahead for July-August. The hut takes reservations year-round but closes for a few weeks in November. Weekend traffic runs heavy May through September. Weekday stays in June or early September offer easier access and less crowded access to the ridges above.
